"MENACE ON THE ROAD"

INTOXICATED DRIVER

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Charged with having been in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car on the road between Masterton and Eketahuna on Monday, Wm. James Ball, traveller, aged 45, was fined £15 and had' his licence cancelled for six months by Mr. J. L. Stout,\S.M., in the Palmerstoh North Magistrate's Court yesterday. ■; .

Senior-Sergeant Moriarty told the Court that Sergt. Dyer (Masterton) had advised the constable at-Eketahuna by telephone to look out for a blue car which was zig-zagging along the road, the driver being apparently under the influence of liquor. Shortly after 5 p.m. the car had been brought into Eketahuna by breakdown truck after having run into a bank. The accused, the driver, was arrested. He had previously been before the Court on a charge of having driven a car in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. "This is the second time I have had you up for being a menace on the road," said the Magistrate. "You will have to travel by service car for the next six months."
