GOLF AT MIRAMAR

SATURDAY'S GALLERY

It is doubtful if ever before in Wellington's golf history a larger "gallery" has assembled than at Miramar on Saturday when matches were played between the visiting British women golfers and a New Zealand team. Every street in the vicinity of the Miramar course was lined for Jong distances with cars, and the moving crowd, for the most part comprised of women in gay woollen sweaters and tweeds, made an unusually busy scene against the background of undulating green. It was a day of fresh wind and sunshine when the colours of gorse-covered ihills, blue sea, and young grass stood out in sharp relief.

The members of both teams were met on arrival by the captain of the Miramar Ladies' Golf Club, and assistance was given throughout the day by members of the ladies' committee.

Then- Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral and Viscountess Galway were among the interested spectators. Lady Galway wore a becoming- tailored suit of Empire blue and white checked tweed with a blue and white bow-scarf and a blue pull-on hat. Mrs. Arthur Purvis, who accompanied her, wore brown and white checked tweed and a brown sports hat.

Those present at afternoon tea at the clubhouse included their Excellencies, the British team (comprising Mrs Hodson manager, Mrs. Walker, Miss J. Anderson, Miss P. Pade, and Miss P. Barton), and the New Zealand team (Miss O. Kay, Mrs. FullertonSmith, Miss V. Fleming, Miss J. Horwell, and Miss Barns-Graham)., Officials and others present included Mrs. Guy Williams (chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Union), Mrs. Russell Grace (president

of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Union), Miss Gambrill (captain of the Miramar Ladies' Golf Club), Mr. and Mrs. Mabin, Mr. and Mrs. • Richmond, and Miss Taylor (hon. secretary of the Miramar Ladies' Golf Club).

Among those noticed in the "gallery" were Mrs. Duncan Stout, Mrs. W. P. Endean, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Welton Hogg, Miss Snodgrass, Miss R. Mitchell, Mrs. Feldwick, Miss Saunders, Mrs. Godby, Miss Culling, Miss Lucas, Miss MacCormick, Mrs. J. C. Peacock, Mrs. R. P. Ward, Mrs. Widdop, Mrs. B. B. Wood, Mrs. E. A. Little, Mr. and Mrs. S. W.
