PETONE CLUB

The Petone Rifle Club fired a further competition counting for the Longfield handicap aggregate at Trentham on Saturday, the range for the day being 600 yards. There was a strong attendance, but the weather conditions, although fine, were definitely against good scoring. A rear, gusty wind, combined with a difficult light, gave members plenty of scope for judgment, and only too often the elements won, and a shot of a low value was indicated.

The 600 yards distance is not considered an easy one, the club standard] being 45 out of 50, and on Saturday the standard was bettered on two occasions only, T. W. Warburton finishing an "inner" for 47 and W. H. Ballinger scoring 46. R. H. Nicholl, T. Warburton, J. Hall, and J. Devine equalled the standard with 45 each, the two latter members being congratulated on their fine scoring under such conditions for comparatively new members to outdoor shooting. W. Scambary and P. Stewart each scored 44.

The outstanding aggregate off the gun for the day was secured by T. W. Warburton, with the brilliant total of 92, followed by W. H. Ballinger and R. H. Nicholl, with 89 each, T. B. Richards 85, and A. Ballinger and J. Hall 84 each.

Next Saturday the shooting will be continued for the same competition at 800 yards.
