MONTH'S ACTIVITIES
The activities of the past month were reviewed 'at a meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society at which Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., presided.
Miss Lissington, who has been released, part time, from her ordinary duties to foster the formation of Junior Red Cross Circles, reported encouraging success from the schools which had been visited.
Sister Stringer, Red Cross nurse, reported that the written examinations' had been completed in the primary schools, and that the practical would take place later. Preparations were [well in hand for students at the secondary schools to compete, for the various first aid and home nursing trophies. Evening classes were well attended and making excellent progress. A special meeting of the Voluntary Aid Detachment was held recently, when the chairman of th Dominion executive, Mr. J. Abel, addressed those present on the organisation of the voluntary aid detachments. Practices had been carried out with regular frequency, and a high standard of efficiency among the members was evident. An appeal was made to all exstudents of the society to link up immediately with the detachment movement. Early next year courses would commence in cookery and gas training for civil population. The holding of a special camp for the Voluntary Aid Detachment was under consideration.
Mrs. W. Ellen, honorary secretary, ladies auxiliary, reported that the depot had been open throughout the month for the relief of special cases. Articles of clothing, boots, layettes, etc., had been distributed; 113J yards iof material had also been distributed !to be made up. ! Miss E. M. Taylor, honorary secretary, Upper Hutt sub-centre, rerJorted that a class in first aid was in progress and it was hoped that a team would be ! ready to compete in the first air competition later in the year.
