LEVIN ACTIVITIES

A meeting of the Levin Women's Institute held recently, drew a very good attendance of members: After the singing o£ the Institute Ode, Mrs. C. E. Thorpe (president) extended a hearty welcome to members and visitors, and also to a number of members of neighbouring institutes present. Three new members were' elected and also welcomed. A short programme was presented, to which the following contributed items: 'Cello solo, Miss C. Nation; song, Miss Inder; elocutionary number, Mrs. Hinde. All the performers were encored for their very pleasing efforts. Mrs. Battersby officiated as accompanist.

The. lecturer and demonstrator for I the evening, Mrs. C. Simpson, of Woodville, gave a most interesting demonstration of papier mache work in many different forms, and also spoke on home treatment of various complaints. Mrs. Simpson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The result of the competition was as follows:—Best plate of shortbread, Mrs. Plaister, 1; Mrs. W.

Eansom, 2.: Best rushwork article: Mrs. Jones,. 1. ; A dainty .supper was dispensed by the hostesses;;: Mesdames L. Fletcher, Galloway,; Harris, Lester, Plaister and Pink. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a most enjoyable and instructive meeting
