LAST SEASON'S WINNINGS

With forty-nine wins and numerous placings Hawera-trained horses won £7725 in stake-money during the racing season just concluded, maintaining the centre's reputation as' a training ground. The principal races won during the season were the Pakuranga Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase (Flower Bag), Foxton Carnarvon Gold Cup (Carfex), Great Northern and Remuera Hurdles (Stanchion), Stratford and Taranaki Cups (Fersen), Wanganui Cup (Aga. Khan), and Manawatu Prince of Wales Handicap (Ruri). : J. Fryer was again the most- successful Hawera trainer, leading in twelve winners and, with the addition- of place-money, securing £2335 in stakes.
O. Cox, with a small team, secured nine wins and nine placings for £1540; J. Brown, seven wins and 16 placings for £1085; R. Brough, four wins for £495; C Le Campion, four wins for £415; C. Jackson, three wins for £780; M. Conway, three wins for £450T. H. Fryer, two■ wins for £205; G. Richards, one win for £145; B La Pouple one win for £130^C. H. Washer two wins for £132; and W. O. Brien, one win for £130.

Notable features were the success of Golden Promise, the Limond—Lady Bentinck colt, in Australia, afterwards sold for £2000; Stanchion's victory in the Great Northern Hurdles; Golden Hair s lack of her two previous years' form; and Carfex's consistent running into places.
With two good two-year-olds inNotium and. Ned , Cuttle, three-year-olds in Link Divine and " Lowenberg and Fersen, Whenuakura, Golden Hair' Supreme Court, Onewhetu, St. Clara', and several good jumpers,'Hawera has considerable strength for forthcoming important events. >
