NEW PLYMOUTH JOTTINGS
(Special from "Hurry On.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, August 10,
The New Plymouth tracks were in good order though naturally on the slow side for the work on Thursday morning, when the outside of the course proper was available .for galloping. With the combined hunts gathering only three weeks off the work is becoming more interesting. Refresher and Tahurangi bowled over five furlongs in good style ip lmin lOisec. Both horses hit out in a pleasing manner, Refresher impressing particularly, displaying plenty of dash. Glenvane, who has never looked better, was restricted to good pace work on the inside. He came through his racing at Awapuni in splendid style. The hunter Money Boy, with a good weight up, ran five furlongs in lmin 12sec, hitting out freely. Orapai was going ■- better than Chikara at the conclusion of a similar distance in lmin 9£sec, a good effort under the conditions. Orapai is looking a picture, and Chikara appears to be .on the improve. Orapai- was afterwards jumped twice over one of the pony hurdles.
Joy Box, who is looking bright arid muscular, appeared anxious to go faster when doing half pace work on the inside. Davistock and Aussie Ra finished up a round of pace work by sprinting over the last two furlongs ,in 27sec, Both hit out in an attractive manner, and appear to be in great order to start the season.
Bonny Glow impressed by finishing on terms with Lady Kyra at the conclusion of half a mile in 55sec. This filly is undoubtedly on the improve. . H. Dulieu's team .were' restricted to easy tasks. The hurdler Beau Star has joined J. O'NeiU's team.' He has shown marked jumping ability, but in the . past has proved- , deficient in stamina. . ■
