ANOTHER NEW VENTURE
The Blue Star Line, Limited, have concluded negotiations with the Outward South African Conference whereby they have been admitted members of the conference with regular sailings from Glasgow, Liverpool, and the Bristol Channel, as well as from Middlesbrough and London, according to the "Syren and Shipping Illustrated." The new service will operate both to South African ports and to East Africa as far as Beira, and it is'understood that the Blue Star Line intend to use most of their six new Diesel vessels recently built, or building. The service was to be inaugurated by the Imperial Star, sailing from Liverpool last Saturday.
The new motor-ship Imperial Star was the first of the three new motorships recently built by the company to visit New Zealand, and arrived here on her maiden voyage last February. With her sister-ships, Australian Star and New Zealand Star, she was built originally for the New Zealand trade. The Blue Star Line is the newest line trading to New Zealand, and the service was inaugurated by the motorship Tuscan-Star, of 11,449 tons gross, which arrived at Auckland from London on November 17, 1933.
Many of the Blue Star ships which have visited the New Zealand coast, including tJle record-breaking steamer Sultan Star, were built originally for .the Argentine trade. The Doric Star and the Napier Star have recently been partially, rebuilt to fit them for the New Zealand and Australian trade.
