THE NAZIS' OBJECT
TO DIVERT PUBLIC ATTENTION ECONOMIC BEAUTIES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyrlßht. (Received July 23, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 22. The Berlin correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian" says that the anti-Semitic campaign is a desperate attempt to divert public attention from economic realities. The collapse of foreign trade and the failure of Dr. Schacht's new plan to remedy it have caused widespread fears of inflation among, the investing and propertied classes, and the masses are discontented at the low wages. The Stahlhelm organisation strongly resisted Hitlerism, especially in respect to antiSemitism, and if the Nazis dissolved it throughout Germany it would be difficult to prevent its reappearance in another form. Meanwhile Nazis are concentrating on the Jews. General Daleuge, a colleague of Count yon Helldorf, the Berlin Chief of Police, denounces Jews as criminals and declares that pickpockets are almost all Jews, who are also the principal drug traffickers, gaming-house proprietors, and sponsors of other illegal activities.
