WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

OHARIU MEETING

Mrs. Best presided over a well-at-tended meeting of the Ohariu Women's Institute in the local hall. Mrs. Lundius gave an instructive address on the "Australian backblocks." A pretty bouquet of daphne and violets was presented her in appreciation of her interesting talk. The competitions were for a "nut loaf" and a "dressed doll" not costing more than a shilling. The winners were Mesdames; Reg. Best, Bryant, Randell, and Reher. Afternoon tea was served by- the hostesses, Mesdames Jarvis, Kenyon, i Monk, Bowen. During the social half-hour a wellstocked bring-and-buy stall was well patronised. The;.roll calls, "The Silliest Thing I Remember Doing," were amusing. The singing of the National Anthem1 brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. REIKORANGI—WAIKANAE. A meeting of the Women's Institute was held recently at Reikorangi. Mrs. G. A. Monk presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. An interesting demonstration on the making of silk lampshades and organdie flowers, was given by Mrs. Waite. The competitions for , the afternoon resulted as follows: —Six1 her. eggs (heaviest), Mrs. Chapman, first; Mrs. S. Monk, second; and Mrs. G. A. Monk, third. Best ginger-bread, Mrs. G. A. Monk, first; Mrs. S. Clifton, second; and Miss G. Mowbray, third. Afternoon tea ■ was . served by -the hostesses, Mesdames Meyer, Stubbings, and Miss Stubbings.
