TOUR OF JAPAN
UNIVERSITY RUGBY TEAM
The New Zealand University Rugby football selector, Mr. P. Martin Smith, of Wellington, is proceeding with the selection of the University team' to go to Japan at the end of the year. ' He anticipates that a strong side will be available for the tour; ' there being some excellent talent offering in the teams representing the universities in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The reason for going ahead with the selecting of the team is that no difficulty is anticipated in carrying negotiations for the tour to a successful conclusion. ■
In order that there should be no undue delay in completing the team, the selector is taking the earliest opportunities of studying the form of players in other centres. He was in Christchurch last Saturday to see the Canterbury College players in action, and he hopes to visit Dunedin' this month. The annual University Rugby match, Canterbury v. Otago, is to be played at Dunedin on July «17. .
