■ThougH Derbies and the big Cups may make full appeal lo followers of the Sport of Kings, there is no phase of the game that has more magnetic lure than the big steeplechases, and the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting.this week will provide thrills in plenty for those fortunate members of the public who are able to be in attendance each day at Trentham. Excellent fields have been attracted for the opening of the fixture tomorrow, the best for several years during the winter, and racing up to the highest Dominion standard should be provided in the eight events carded for decision. Two of the races are over country, two over hurdles, and the remaining four on the flat. The weather prospects this morning, with the wild southerly that blew up on Saturday night still unabated, were far from bright for -tomorrow, but 'the forecast is for a return to better conditions. All hope of dry grounds and track, however, have vanished. Whatever the weather, Trentham, with its commodious appointments, offers ample shelter, and as far as spectators are concerned they may be assured of comfort, under the worst of conditions. The meeting will be continued oh Thursday,'arid will conclude on Saturday, when the July Steeples and Winter Hurdle* will be the star attractions. .•
