THEFT OF £343
TREASURER SENT TO GAOL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. "Young men must understand that they must accept responsibility for their conduct when1 they do not respect the law. If they choose to steal they must pay the penalty;" said Mr. Justice Fair, when sentencing Colin Moore Mitchinson, aged 23, former treasurer of the Clem Dawe Revue Company, for theft of £343. The Judge said that when a shortage of £80 had been discovered last October the prisoner had been given a warning and advised of ■ the system he was to follow. He was old enough to have a sense of responsibility. It was a painful case, for t^e prisoner had a good record, but his was not the type of case for which probation could be granted. Although no doubt the prisoner had used some of the money in the interests of the company, the greater part of it must have been spent in the knowledge that, he was stealing. He would be sentenced to twelve months' ..imprisonment with hard labour, to be followed by twelve months' reformative detention.
