REMARKS WITHDRAWN
MR. ARCHDALL'S POSITION
The Editor of the Christchurch "Press" has received the following letter from Canon Charles Perry:—
"In reference to my sermon of last Sunday dealing with the resignation of Mr. Archdall from King's College, Auckland, I am convinced by the statements both of the Archbishop of New Zealand and of Mr. Archdall himself that I was entirely mistaken in my impression, and I unreservedly withdraw my suggestion that Mr. Archdall's retirement was in any way due to a difference of opinion as to his Church views. I greatly regret any distress caused either to the Archbishop or to Mr. Archdall."
In his sermon at St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, on Sunday evening Canon Perry expressed the opinion that there was a distinct lack of religious liberty in certain parts of the Anglican communion. He criticised the attitude of the Auckland diocese towards the Rev. H. K. Archdall, who has resigned from the headmastership of King's College, Auckland.
