RELIGION IN SCHOOLS

The opinion that laymen should cooperate with clergy in pressing for inj.creased activity regarding religious instruction in State schools was generally expressed by the Waikato Synod. The Rev. C. W. Chandler (Cambridge), who recently Returned from New South Wales, stated that there ministers were permitted 'to .give i religious instruction, to children 'of! their own denomination in schools, and it was high time that a similar position pertained in New Zealand., x Mr. H. G. Coombes (Frankton) said that the laxity of church people regarding, this important matter was amazing. Conditions appeared to Jbe going from bad to worse. ,
