Y.W.C.A. GAIETY CLUB
This week's talk to the members of the Y.W.C.A. Gaiety Club was given by Miss ■ Mary Dakin, physical instructress. "Experience teaches us that our food should be selected with due respect to the content of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, etc.,'-' said Miss Dakin. "In other words, life-producing substances, such as found in eggs, milk, fruit, and vegetables. Having selected the foods essential for our good .health, we must not neglect the important question of digestion." "Do take time to digest your food," said Miss Dakin, "and drink plenty of water. Water, inside and out, is essential to good health." Almost more important was fresh air and sunlight, said the speaker, and advised the girls to walk as much as possible each day. This was an important asset towards slimming. "Don't slim drastically by fasting or 'starvation diets.' Cut out fatty foods if you find, they are fattening you. Change to brown bread if white bread tends to make you plump. Keep your food within bounds. Observe strict rules of cleanliness. Keep a clear mental attitude towards life. Don't'treat yourselves as invalids, but do today the work, there is to be done. Don't shirk thinking. Think happily, and this with the observance of the simple rules of cleanliness, will find its accomplishment in your good health." ' A pleasant evening concluded with Vespers and supper. , Members were- reminded that the club would meet, with all other Y.W.C.A. clubs, on Thursday of next week for a rally prior to the forthcoming "Every Girl's Street Day."
