GOOD DEMAND FOR LAMB

The Bank of New Zealand, producedepartment, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—The market for wethers is quiet and unchanged. Prices for ewes are slightly lower owing, to lack of demand. There is a good demand) for Jambs at present prices. The demand for beef is affected by low prices of chilled. Trade, generally, is slow owing to hot1 weather. Wethers, light 3 5-8 dto 4 5-8 d per lb, heavy 3d to 3 3-8 d; ewes, 2d to 3d; lambs. 2's 63d to 7d, B's 6?d to 7d; 4's 6 5-8 dto 6 7-Bd, seconds 6d to 6-id; ox hinds 3 3-8 dto 3 5-Bd, fores 2 3-8 dto 2 5-Bd.

Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated July s:—North Island frozen meat quotations are ,as follows:—Down lambs, 28-361b 73 d per lb, 36-4Z 73d; crossbred lambs, 28-36 7 l-Bd, 36-42 7 l-8d; second quality lambs, average 30-31 6d; wether sheep, under 481b 4J.d; sheep, 48-56 3 7-Bd, 56----64 3 5-Bd, 64-72 3 3-8 d; ewes, under 481b 3 l-Bd, 48-56 23d, 56-64 2Jd, 64-72 2Jd; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160-220, 2 7-Bd. Compared with last week's quotations, crossbred lamb l-8d per lb higher; beef l-8d per lb lower; others unchanged. The market for lamb is steady to firm. The mutton market shows no change.
