NOTES

The Brooklyn.harriers were.to hold their annual contest for the Cooke Cup this afternoon. The veterans,. Prosser and D. Pederson,'were favoured for fastest-time honours, but some of the new members were expected to finish ln.the first six places.■ .=.

In an intef-club harrier contest held recently at. Dannevirke, the Wanganui and Napier teams; shared the honours. C. Weller was first man to finish, followed by C. .Wright (Hastings) and A. Lord • (Napier). /The event; was an unIqualified success, there being 65 entries, comprising ten teams.

.. Although there were only two teams in the Olympic harriers' relay race from Eastbourne to Wellington, the event was full of excitement, as one team tried in vain to; make up the leeway gained by the opponents in the early stages ; of the race*

On the Wellington harrier, sub-com-mittee falls the responsibility of run-, ning the. New Zealand championships successfully, without very great assist-. ance from the centre. However, arrangements are well in hand and other centres are assured »of a first-class entertainment during the weekend.

Judging by fpnn.shpwn in : the early stages of the harrier season, there appear to be two Wellington runners who may have, a chance of gaining honours in. the New Zealand team Which is to visit .Australia. C. Riddington, of Scottish harriers, is a steadily improving runner, and, provided he trains consistently, he should have a chance against those of other centres. C. Chalk, of the Wellington harriers, Is another runner who has yet to be extended. It is to be hoped he will gain top form in time to compete successfully for a place in the touring team. ,

D. Toddj veteran of .many inter-club and provincial races, is .again on the trail with the Brooklyn Club, and put up a good performance to finish eleventh in a recent race.
