DR. M. H. WATT, C.B.E.
Dr. Michael Herbert Watt, C.8.E., has been Director-General of Health since 1931. He was born in Dunedin, and was educated at the Otago Boys' High School and the University of Otago, where he graduated M.8., Ch.B., in 1910. In that year he was awarded a travelling scholarship, and two years later repeived his M.D. degree. He was lecturer at the Otago Medical School for a time, and was appointed
district health officer in 1917. In 1918 he became a director of the Department of Public Hygiene, and in 1925 attended the League of Nations medical conference in Japan, in the capacity of Deputy Director of Health. Dr. Watt was also an examiner, in physiology at the Otago Medical School.
