SIR W. SINCLAIR-BURGESS, K.B.E.

Major-General Sir W. L. H. SinclairBurgess, K.8.E., has been General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces since 1931, and was created a Knight Bachelor last year. He was born at Longsight, England, in 1880, and joined the Defence Department in 1911. In 1913 he was stationed in Tasmania, having proceeded there under the system of interchange of officers, and he served with the Australian Forces during the war, returning to New Zealand in October, 1919. He was then appointed Artillery Staff Officer for the Wellington military district. In April, 1922, he was transferred to General Headquarters as Director of Military Training and Intelligence, and was appointed Chief of the General Staff two years later. For his services in the war he was decorated with the Croix d'Officier Legion d'Honneur and the American Distinguished Service Medal. He also holds the 1914-15 Star, and . has received the decorations of D.5.0., C.M.G., and C.B. In October, 1928, he was appointed an additional A.D.C. to the King.
