A STERN WARNING
JAPAN'S NOTE TO CHINA
"ACROSS THE GREAT WALL"
SHANGHAI, May 31
■War clouds are again gathering in North China. The Japanese are accusing the Chinese authorities of fostering anti-Japanese activities, and threaten to send forces across the Great Wall with the ultimate object of including Peking and Tientsin within the • demilitarised zone!
The Japanese army representative, Colonel Saki, delivered a stem warning Note to Ho Ying-Chin, the Chinese Minister of War, on Wednesday. It asserted that the recent uprising of Chinese volunteers within the zone was instigated by Tientsin and Peking, and as a result the Japanese may be compelled ruthlessly to suppress such activities. Should the Chinese find difficulty in suppressing anti-Japanese activities, then Japan will have to carry them out by her own method.
While Colonel Saki was conferring with Ho Ying-Chin, Japanese aeroplanes were circling over Peking. Colonel Saki is 'quoted as saying, "Those craft will probably appear over Karegan soon."
