KING'S BIRTHDAY
TROOPING THE COLOUR
THE JUBILEE TRUST FUND
SELLING, OF EMBLEMS
(British omclul Wircluss.) (Received May 31, 11.15 a.m.)
RUGBY, May 30.
The King will celebrate his 70th birthday on Monday, and will attend that morning the picturesque and impressive ceremony of "trooping the Cojour" by the Battalions of the Brigade of Guards, which every 3rd of June attracts great crowds of spectators to the Horseguards" Parade.
This year there will be an opportunity of purchasing in the street birthday emblems in aid of the King's Silver Jubilee Trust. This fund is the personal gift of the nation to his Majesty who has decided that it shall be devoted to "the welfare of the rising generation." The fund will not start new organisations, but will help existing ones which are concerned with the youth movement of the nation in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Additional financial assistance will enable boys and girls, clubs, and any organisation to extend their activities. Playing fields, gymnasiums, equipment for games, headquarters for youth centres, campaign equipment, and many other things are needed.
Contributions to the fund continue to pour in to St. James' Palace, where every day for weeks past the Prince of Wales has spent much of his time in its organisation. The total has increased to such an extent that there are hopes that the first te 1,000,000 will have been reached by next week.'
The sale of Monday's birthday emblems has been organised by voluntary workers throughout the London area, and 1,500,000 of them have been specially made by. the British Legion poppy factory.
