The Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) is to leave Wellington tomorrow for Dannevirke. He is to return to Wellington early next week.
Appreciation of the assistance rendered to boxing in the past by Mr. T. W. ("Dorrie") Leslie, who recently retired from the position of custodian of the Town Hall, was expressed at last night's annual meeting of the Wellington Boxing Association. A motion by Mr. L. Salek, expressing appreciation of his services, was passed unanimously. . .
Mr. H. Holland, M.P. for Christchurch North, who has been visiting Wellington, is to return south tonight.
Mr. E. G. Rhodes, deputy registrar of the Supreme Court; Wellington, has been appointed returning officer for the electoral district of Wellington North and returning officer for the Wellington Licensing District.
Reference to the very heavy loss the sport of boxing had sustained through the death of the late president of .the New Zealand Council, Dr. P. F. McEyedy, was made by Mr. R. W. McVilly, president of the Wellington Boxing Association, at the annual meeting of the association last night. A motion of • condolence with. Dr. McEvedy's relatives was passed in the usual manner. A similar resolution was passed in respect to the. late Mr. Alexander Minogue. ' The appointments have been gazetted of Mr. David Allan, as honorary Consul for Uruguay, at Wellington, and Mr. Paavo Simelius, as Consul of Finland for New' Zealand, at Sydney..*
Mr. R. B. Carpinter, a popular member of the newsroom staff of the "Evening Post," was met today by a large gathering of his colleagues and members of other departments and presented with.a clock as a wedding gift. '

Sympathy with Mr .A- E. Neilson, secretary of the Wellington and New Zealand Rugby Football Unions, in his illness was expressed at this week's meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union's management committee, and the hope expressed that he would make a speedy recovery. ■
Mr. R. H. Nesbitt, Australian-Trade Commissioner, left last evening for Auckland on his way to Australia on furlough and business. He will be away from New Zealand till about the middle of July and during his absence his duties will be-carried out by Mr. J. Payne, Assistant Trade Commissioner.
