REPORTS AND RETURNS jUahakipawa Gbldfields, Ltd., reports for period ending May B:—The leading face has been advanced 10ft on slightlyrising bottom. The gutter lias a decided tendency to bear to the left, the right hand wall having come over.4ft in the last 6ft. The top half of the left or eastern wall has not been visible for the last 9ft, but the lower half has projected out in the form of' a shelf.. The bottom is now about 2ft above the floor of the drive which is being turned to follow the gutter. The wash-which is cemented in place's does not contain any values. The face is no.w-1375ft south and 155 ft west of main shaft. Cross-cut south: -At a point 23ft away from the drive and approximately 12ft into the wall/we Started to rise vertically and at. a distance of 14ft cut the wash: After'rising another 6ft the back was caught up and a drive .started on the south side of the rice.'. This has now been driven, for 10ft, the first sft of which was more or less level, but in the last-sft.the bottom has started to.fall, ,an"d is about 6ft lower than it was at the.start. The, manager of Nevis Sluicing Claims, Ltd., reports that sluicing operations are going on uninterruptedly on both top and bottom claims, and there is an abundance of water in the race. MOLYNEUX. ; The new dredge for the Molyneus Gold Dredging Company, which is being constructed >at Clyde,. is now taking.definite form, states the "Otago Daily Times." The after portion is completely plated, as also is the starboard forward portion, and some idea' of , the eize of the dredge can now 'be The dredge is 150 ft long, with a beam of 40ft, and depth of lift. It has the appearance of a very massive structure. When completed the total weight will be- N over 375 tons, and the launching of this heavy structure into the seven-knot current ot the Molyneux River will be an undertaking of no small magnitude for the contractors., CAIRNMUIR. The manager of Cairnmuir Sluicing, Ltd., reports for the period ended April 30: — At present opening out for a tail-race and stone room, and have about six or seven heads of water'in. As soon as. we are ready at the claim we will bring: in the fulLstream. The race is.in good order; and not giving much trouble. During opening-put operations we have seen some nice specks ot gold on the bottom as per tho sample of approximately ldwt now submitted herewith. Big River; Gold Mines report, for week ending May 9:—No. 4 North Drive ad.vanced -7 feet. Total distance driven 50 feet with 6in of broken stone in reef track. No. 5 Stope is following.stone 6 feet wide. This Stope will be slightly shorter, but reef is well denned of nard clean stone. Rise 45 feet up, in one branch drive, following stone 2 feet, wide. No. 4 South Drive, face hot extended during week. No. 3 Stope now producing high grade ore, Ml feet wide. The filling for 30 feet in main shaft is now: completed and sinking, commenced. Battery is now -working two shifts. Owing to holidays coupled with' breakage.in shaft timbers above No. 2 level of mine, insufficient stone was sent to the battery to enable crushing operations to be oavried on with the full two shifts, therefore, crushing time was much diminished. In view of, this it. has been .decided to defer battery clean-up until the end"*bf this present month. ALEXANDER. Alexander Mines, -Ltd., reports for April:—Driving north and 6outh on No. 4 south level continued and 100 ft driven on lode to date. In the north end, a fault is showing cutting the stone off; prospecting will be carried out here later on.. In the south face the reef is 2ft 6in wide and looks promising for continuing further. No. 5 crosscut is now 31ft Bin from the surface, the country being good for driving. • A contract , has been let for 900 ft of crosecu'tting, the contractors to start work on May 1. Air and water pipes laid and machines' installed in face. The leading'stope in No.: 4- backs (south end) has been risen for and partially taken off, the reef averaging about 3ft'6in"in width. Stone 4ft wide-and lying^flat is also being- driven 'out under No. 1? intermediate, arid.this, may lead on to something of value later on. Battery— 325 tons were sent to battery and 340 tons crushed for return -of • 1950z 7dwt melted gold. ..Cyanide department treated 221 tons of sands for a recovery of 58oz ISdwt bullion. Concentrates roaster produced 440z 7dwt of bullion. The total estimated value of these returns is £2075. In addition; about 14 tons of concentrates have been saved valued at £300. (Note: In estimating the above1 values, gold has been taken at 150s per fine oulice.)
