SPIRITED BIDDING

SYDNEY YEARLING SALES

United Press Association—By Electric Tele-

graph—Copyright,

SYDNEY, April 26. At the concluding day of the yearling sales Mr. D. MacKinnon, Melbourne, paid 600 guineas for a shapely chestnut nlly by Heroic from Belle Gallante. Percy Miller, of Kiaora Stud, Scone, oftered nine colts and ten fillies by Baralong, imported; also eight fillies by Pantheon, imported, the complete draft realising 3860 guineas. A New Zealander, Mr. G. Barton, secured a Baralong colt from Wilhelmina for 180 guineas. Peter Pan's half-brother, an attractive colt by Brazen from Alwina, was passed in at 800 guineas. Mr H. Couzens, of Melbourne, bought a beautiful bay colt by Spearhead from The Amazon for 350 guineas. A large draft of Silvius fillies made from 50 to 160 guineas. The great improvement in racing in the past twelve months has been reflected in the higher prices and spirited bidding at this year's sales. Increased prize money has brought back1 to the racing fold many sportsmen whose colours were prominent several years ago. Their presence at the sales was relished by breeders and made for greater competition than has prevailed for some years.

Mr. Gerald Griffin, whom the Australian Government tried to prevent from landing in the Commonwealth to attend the Australian Congress Against War and Fascism, will speak at the King's Theatre on Sunday, May 12, at 8 p.m.
