the second division will be promoted, with teams coming up from the senior B grade, to take their places. SENIOR A NOTES. Hutt, although without some of last year's principals, are again at good strength, with Andrews (South Island loose forward) a notable addition and other likely material for the filling of gaps. Greenbank (Upper Hutt), who met with an injury at work soon after transferring to the Wairarapa last year, is a'likely-looking half-back. Wellington College Old Boys have gained Tuck (a five-eighth from Otago), and Atkins has been back some time from Hawera. They will be paired behind Sadler, with Baldwin dropping back to centre in place of Dustin, who is now in Wanganui. Leonard will be full-back vice Masters (now in Te Aroha). The pack remains intact. Poneke have gained Prebble (a Hawke's Bay representative three-quar-ter) and some others to make up for losses. Chesterman has retired. Roddick has gone to Auckland and Quaid to Dunedin. Athletic will be without Tindill for some weeks, this fine half-back having had his nose broken again. It was when playing cricket for a Wellington team against Manawatu on Monday that a ball rose sharply off the top of the bat and struck Tindill on the nose. With high honours to be won this year, Tindill is most .unfortunate, but he hopes to be in action in a few weeks. .Athletics newcomers include Karsten (a small, though nippy fiveeighth from Nelson), Leslie (a New South Wales forward), and Friend (a back, from Taranaki). Mclntyre, a very promising full-back, has been promoted. Leslie is starting off with the B team. Marist have lost a good forward in

Leahy, but they have any amount of material. Most of last year's seniors hold their places, and Macdonald is'expected'to be in good nick after his spell through an injury. Ropata (a Maori representative) is a hew member of the pack. , Petone, look to have a side which should perform to better advantage than was the case last year. Numerically they are so strong as to be able to enter two senior A teams, one in each division. Leahy (from Marist) is in the1 A pack ■';■.-■ J. Dellabarca, Fuller, and E. Foley will be missed by Eastbourne, who, however, have several new players. Foley is suffering from a damaged wrist, but he should be in action before long. It is hoped, too, that Dellabarca will be showing his paces before the season is far advanced. Common' (from Auckland) ,is a likely-looking back. With Fong as a notable addition to the back division, Wellington should make things very brisk at times. The Kilby-Page-Fong trio should keep the opposition busy. Tapley (from the south) is one of the club's new backs. NOTES "I learn," writes "Fair Field" in an English paper, "that the Scottish Rugby Union are considering a plan to provide 7000 additional seats to the existing stand accommodation at the Murrayfield ground for the match against the All Blacks next November. Murrayfleld can now seat between s BOOO and 9000 people. Under the suggested scheme over 15,000 spectators could be accommodated in the stand. The reason why this proposal has been made is because of the unprecedented demand for tickets for "Saturday's Calcutta Cup duel with England. The officials, I am told, realise that this interest in an international match will be increased when the New Zealand team play in Scotland next season." The following is an interesting note from comment made by Rowe Harding on a recent Rugby match in Wales between Llanelly and Swansea: "The scrum-halves indulged in a per? sonal vendetta, and each was more concerned to bowl over his opponent than to get the ball way. So it happened that until the game was all but over, the ball was either in, or on the fringes of, a series of dull and uninteresting mauls, with the three-quar-ters looking on idly." Owing to his having damaged a shoulder in the Army v. Navy match, D. A. Kendrew, (who was in New Zealand with the 1930 British team) was unable to lead England in the recent Rugby match against Scotland. B. C. Gadney, the Leicester scrum-half, took over the captaincy. ■ "Not until the English selectors reconsider the bedrock principles of forward play can England hope to have a team worthy of the name."—A note by a Rugby critito in writing of Scotland's recent Rugby victory over England. Ivor Jones, one of the 1930 British Rugby team's wining forwards on the tour of New Zealand, is still playing in Wales. He is one of some four or five players by the names of Jones in the Llanelly.team.

"Regarding 3s -6d as an exorbitant charge for the reserved standing-room, supporters of Bolton Wanderers refused to buy these tickets for the Association football cup tie with West Bromwich Albion at Leeds. Nearly 1000, it is stated, were returned by the club to Leeds. A FURTHER ADVANCE IN BOOTS. The famous "O.B." patented football boot is now made in a lighter weight for "backs." The same constructional principles are followed, patented aluminium plate to protect the foot, etc., are in both models. Price 23s 6d. If not stocked by local Sports Depots and Shoe Shops, write O'Brien's, Christchurqh, for nearest stockist.— Advt, . ■
