ANZAC DAY IN THE SCHOOLS

There was a large gathering of children and adults at the morning service at Newtown ' School on Anzac Day. The chairman of the: committee, Mr. 3. W. Salmon, presided. The local ministers conducted <the service, and an eloquent address upon war and peace was delivered by the Rev. Mr. Matheson. Mr.. Hickson, headmaster, was at the piano. A number of beautiful wreaths made by some scholars and friends, also a quantity of flowers were subsequently' taken to the Cenotaph. The Anzac Day service at Tawa Flat was organised by the school committee and head teacher. There was a iarge attendance of school children and residents. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. McKeen, and Mr. . Seivwright, representing the R.S.A., delivered the address. The school children recited "For the Fallen" (Laurence Binyon) .and sang the anthem ''Crossing the Bar" (J. Barnby) and the "Children's Song of Peace." Many floral tributes were received and conveyed to Karori later, and a collection, .was'taken up for the relief of distressed soldiers.
