PAUA TRAMPING CLUB

The Paua Tramping Club ran two trips at Easter—one party of twenty goiiig to the club's hut- in the Orongorongos, and another 'party of twenty-eight going to Mt: Egmont: 'The Mt?. Egmont party left Wellington at 8.30 p.m. on the Thursday, stopping at Wanganu'i for light refreshments and arriving at Dawson's Falls at 7.30 the following morning. Good Friday morning was spent mostly in settling into the club's quarters, a few of the party going to sec Dawson's Falls, after which the hostel' is named. In the afternoon the club was kono'uc.ed by the captain of the Mt.'Egmont "Alpine" Club, Mr. Eod Syme, who led the party up past the once-famous Wilkie Pools on to Curtis Ridge from where an excellent view of the skiing grounds was obtained. Saturday was the big clay of the trip, a party of eleven setting out at 6.30 a.m. for the crater. The leader, Mr. E. F. Hollands, chose the Stratford track as giving the trampers the best climb, and the party reached the top in well under sbc hours. A wonderful view was had from the mountain, the day being perfect, and above the vast expanse of clouds were cleaiiy seen the peaks of Ngauruhoe and Ituapehu. The return trip was made down the east side of Mt. Egmont, skirting round to Fanthom's Peak where' a few of the party visited the Syme Hut before returning to Dawsqn's Falls. The weather was very disappointing on Easter Sunday, but a large party went round to North Egmont, •returning the visit of the Tararu'a Tramping Club Mho had come to Dawson's Falls the day before. The party arrived back in Wellington at 11 p.m. on Easter-Monday with everyone agreeing that the. holiday had been exceptionally well organised and, all • too short*
