NEW ZEALAND LEGION

CAMPAIGN OPENS IN LOWER

HUTT

Keen interest is being taken in the Hutt Valley in the campaign of the New Zealand Legion. A few weeks ago the Legion opened its headquarters in the man street. Work has been going on quietly but effectively. In the last week before the supplementary'roll closed the Legion succeeded in placing no fewer than 500 new names on the roll, Committees have been formed to cover the whole district. Two of the Legion's Mayoral candidates have been already elected unopposed—Mr. J. W. Andrews, of Lower Hutt, and Mr. E. W. Wise, of Eastbourne. The former will lead the Legion campaign in Lower Hutt and is the Legion candidate for the Harbour Board and the Power Board. Candidates are also offering their services for the Borough Council, River Board, Hospital Board, Harbour Board, Electric Power Board, and Gas-lighting Board. The national presdient, Dr. S. Campbell Begg, will take an active share in some of the meetings of the forthcoming election. The first meeting of the campaign will be held on Monday next at the Congregational Hall, Alicetown, -when the principal speaker will be the Mayor. Mr. J. W. Andrews. , ■.
