RAIN IN WAIKATO
THREAT OF SERIOUS FLOODS
(By Telegraph—Presi Association.)
HAMILTON, This Day.
Incessant heavy rain for more than 48 hours, experienced throughout the Waikato district, shows no sign of abating, and serious floods are likely if the position is not relieved. During the past 48 hours the rainfall recorded at Huntly. Te Aroha, Hamilton, Cam-, bridge, Morrinsville, and Te Awamutu averaged between five and six inches. Several roads, mainly in the Glen Afton district and in the area of the Taupiri drainage scheme, are inundated, and in some cases a considerable acreage of pasture is under water. Rivers and creeks are rising rapidly, and further flooding is imminent. The main highway between "Ngaruawahia. and Hamilton, which is under repair, has been made into a quagmire, several stretches being covered with mud fully a foot deep. The new road formation on the Hamilton-Morrinsville main highway is also seriously affected.
