LABOUR PARTY
WORK DURING SESSION
REPORT BY MR. SAVAGE
This morning's session at the conference of the New Zealand Labour Party in the Trades Hall was occupied with a discussion on the finances of the party the report of the work of the Labour Party in Parliament during last session. The report, which was adopted unanimously, was presented by Mr. M. J. Savage, Leader of the Opposition,' . who received an ovation. This afternoon the election of officers is to take place, and much interest will be' taken in this, particularly in 'view of the fact that there is a large number of candidates' for practically every position.
Mr. Savage's report covered the periods from June 28, 1934, to November 10, and from February iZ last, when Parliament met again, to April 5. The report gave a comprehensive survey of the activities of the party.
In concluding this ' review Mr. Savage stated that today the Parliamentary Labour Party in New Zealand owed its position in the political life of the couutry to its adherence to the principles upon which its platform was based, and to the spirit of cooperation which for many years had prevailed amongst its menibers. It was those qualities that would ultimately be the means of the party securing the reins of government—the first step towards the attainment of its objective. During the whole of the lengthy session just ended those qualities predominated in all members, to whom he wished to- express his sincere thanks. -
