"BILLY" BELL'S DEATH

PALMERSTON N., This Day.
The death occurred at Levin on Saturday of Mr. W. H. ("Billy") Bell. The deceased was one of New Zealand's leading lightweight jockeys a 'couple of decades ago when this country was exceptionally well off for first-class horsemen, and he had successes in many of the leading.events of the racing calendar. He was apprenticed to the Highderi" stable at Awapuni in the days of George' Price, with the late Arthur Oliver as first horseman. On his retirement he took up farming at Levin. He was married to Miss Maud Reed, the only sister of the well-known brothers Ashley, Roy, and the late Con Reed, and is survived by his wife and two children. -■'.'■■
