THE TIGER IMPROVES

FIRST DAY AT FEILDING

(Special to tho "Evening Post.")

MOLDING, April 20.

Tho Foikling Electing opened in gloriously lino weather. Thu course was dry and in fast order, and the racing was interesting throughout. Recent form proved a reliable guide mid the public wore rarely for from the mark, no less than four favourites winning during the day. The totalisator investments showed an increase, being £16,4-18, against £1-1,475 10s last year. The Trentham-trainod Chile was second favourite for the Hurdles, and won well despite tho fact that Lo was standing the leaders, Park Acre aud Headland, a lot ot' ground half a mile'from home. Sunny Song, the favourite, was at the rear of the field for most of the way and never looked likely. Hone Where and Headland led from Henry., of Navarre and Park Acre over the first fence, and the order passing the stands was Hone Whero, froui Park ■Acre, Headland, Heuvy of Navarre, Harvest Moon, Chile, and Sunny Song. It was the same into the back, but Park Acre aid Headland then ran past Hone Whero and they bad i opened up a good break at the far turn, where Chile and. Harvest Moon ivere making their run. Park Acre and' Headland led by four lengths from Chile and Henry of Navarre entering the straight, but Chile had closed on the. leaders before the last fence was reached. Then in the run to the judge Chile gradually overhauled Park Acre and won nicely by over a. length. Headland was four lengthu away third, and Henry of Navarre a poor-fourth. Next were Sunny Song and Harvest Moon. JOCKEY SUSPENDED. An inquiry was held ftfter the race and as a result J. Walsh, rider of Sunny Song, was disqualified for six months for having failed to ride his horse out. The action was taken under sub-section 2 of liule 295. There was an, interesting finish in the Ongo Hack, and Gold Mission came with a good run to beat the Feilding-traincd Leprechaun, who looked the winner at the distance. Dialogist, Koreroa, and Boon were early prominent, but they had not gone far before Leprechaun and Mid Acre were setting a merry, pace, with Dialogist next, ahead bf.Koreroa, Eeipar, and Boon. This order was unchanged at the home turn, where Gold Mission was making some play and going well. When they straightened up for the judge. Leprechaun drew'ahead of Mid Acre but failed to hold Gold Mission, who swung' away from, the fence to win nicely by a good length, with Boon a length away third. Dialogist waa Jtfgllt .up* fourth with Mid Acre, Merry Way,-and Kiirapae. . GOOD PERFORMANCE BY PLADIE. Pladie was favourite for the Manchester Handicap and he duly won, though required to give of his best to beat Chief Marionette, who was yell-in'.'tho.picture half-way down thestraight. .. / > Miss Hushabye led out of the straight from .Trishna, with Rust, Chief Marionette, and Aga Khan next almost in line. Miss Hushabye had increased her lead to three lengths going into the back stretch; and. she drew/further away before the far turn was reached. At that, stage Pladie and Rust were at the rear of the' field. Miss Hushabye was three lengths clear of Trisjina, Chief Marionette, aiid: Aga Khan at the home turn, but slier went back to them as soon as heads were turned for home. Chief Marionette was in front at the distance, but Pladie,: on the outer, was challenging, and tho latter finished well to win by half a length, froan Chief Marionette with Kust a length and a half further back, ahead of Trishna aud Miss Hushabye. Aga Khan was last and he did not appear to be going kindly at any : stage.' ... • , . .., GOOD THING FOR ORAC. The Te Kapa-traincd Orac was a firm favourite for the Maiden Stakes, vjiiich proved the best of good things for Mm. lie was in front by the time they had settled down and was never in any dlinger though his winning 'margin was under a length. Orae led out from Autumn Leaf, Drumpcel, Vivienne, and Merlyn, with Gay Boy next. "Vivienne joined Orac crossing the top, but otherwise the orfcr was much the same, and Orac shdwed the way into the straight; followed by Vivienne, Drumpeel, Merlyn, Gay Boy, Autumn Leaf, and Trimden. Orac was going.very comfortably and he was not under pressure,to beat Morlyn by three-quarters of a length. ' Gay Boy was, a ■ similar/ distance away third,; and'Vivienne fourth;, followed by Drumpeel, .Royal Guy, and ;Terry. , THE Tlfltß WINS IN CLOSE FINISH. ' There was a very close finish in the open sprint,' in which Tha Tiger just beat Bpdyline. and Boughal. There were five starters and Lady Kyra was first to break the (line, but: she Boon save way to Souchong, who, when they ;had. settled down, was followed by Boughal, The Tiger, Bodyline, and Lady Kyra. Boughal joined Souchong at'the half-mile and they, raced together across the top. The Tiger was just behind them and Bodyline, -under a nice hold, was next. /There.was no alteration' into the straight, and as soon "as they were in line for the judge The Tiger and Bodyline challenged.' At the distance Bodyline, on the fence, Boughal, and The Tiger; on the outer,.were in line and the issue was very much in doubt. ■ Over the last bit, however, The Tiger did best and he beat Bodyline by a short . neck. Boughal was only a head away and Lady Kyra was close up fourth. ; SEVERE PROVES HER WORTH. The Severe bracket was at a short price for the Taonui Nursery, but it was not bad considering that the punters had three strings,to their bow. .Finnesko and Severe showed up when the tapes went up, but Surprise Item soon took up the running to lead across the top and into the straight, where Severe, JTinnesko, Matrimony, Alchemic, arid Romp Along were following in that order. Severe then went to the front and although Finnesko challenged solidly, she never looked like stopping and won by three-quarters of a length, Finnesko being a length and a half in front of Romp Along. Surprise Item was fourth, followed ,by Alchemic. ROUND SCORE'S STRONG FINISH. Round Score was favourite for the Onepuhi Hack and after making ux> quite a lot of ground beat' Onewhetu by half a length, his finishing run. being a particularly good one./ Wahine Nui raced to the front early aivd was soon, well clear of Count Willonyix, with a second gap to Onewhetu. Sir Romeo, Ingenuity; Tahurangi, and Timorous* who ;were in that order. They were m*iek the same into tho back, but Wahine !Nui was well clear. At the half-mile Onewhetu set out after the leader, and funnihs to the home turn the order was Wahine Nui, Onewhetu, Count Willonyx, and Tahurangi, with Round Score at the head of the others. Onewhetu was actually the iirst to break into tho; straight and looked a winner at the distance. Then Round Score arrived on the scene', followed by Ingenuity on the outer, and in a good finish Round Score won by half a length from Onewhetu, with Ingenuity; a length further back. Wahino Nui was fourth, followed by Tahurangi and Count Willonyx. •'" GOLD MAG PAYS A PRICE. Limutiis was favourite for, the concluding event, but she finished out of a place,' the dividends being returned by Gold Mag and Boughal, Gold Mag being at a good price. Boughal and Litnulus began best and at the half-mile Boughal was clear, with Limulus, Sanguine King, and Refresher next almost in line, then Gold Mag and Midian. Sanguine King drifted crossing the top and Boughal led for home followed by Limulus and Refresher, Pomp and Gold Mag,' then Midian, Sanguine King, and True Shaft. There was an exciting finish' and Gold Mag . came through brilliantly to beat Boughal by half a length, with Midian a similar distance away third. Pomp was fourth, followed by Sanguine King and Limulus, RESULTS IN DETAIL. Kawa Kawa Hurdle Race, £130; about IVi miles and ]30 yards.—2 01111 c, 10.8 (P.
