KARORI CLUB

The fifth annual general meeting o£ the Karon Chess Club was held in the Karori. School. The president, Mr. H. I. Bennett, occupied the chair. The annual report stated that the club did not take part in the Wellington Chess League's contests last year, but played three very enjoyable matches against the -Shell Chess Club. , Karori drew the first of these fixtures (5-5), won the second by one point (5-4), and the third by two points (C-4). Kegrefc is expressed at the death of Mr. C. H. Beggs, the club's hon. secretary, which occurred in July last. He had a fine record, both as a player and as an officebearer. The report and balance-sheet were adopted unanimously. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mj'- JJ-1; Bennett; vice-presidents, Messrs. VV. Kenible Welch arid A. W Gyles; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Taylor; hon. auditor, Mr. 11. L. P. Dyett; delegate to Chess League, Mr. W. X, Welch; committees, the officers of the club. It was decided to enter teams for the league's B grade and C grade competitions. The club has had, a welcome addition to its strength, four new members having joined. The meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks io last year's office-bearers'. "
