A WOMAN'S DEATH
MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
MAN COMIVIITTED FOR TRIAL

CHRISTCHURCH, April 9.
An inquest into the. death of Adeline Mary Bradley, aged 22," and a charge against Joseph Frederick David Claik son of manslaughter .were taken in conjunction in the Magistrates Court to day. Dr. D. E. Orchard said that- at 8.40 p.m. on March 17 he visited a house in Worcester Street, being taken there by Clarkson. He examined Bradley. who was lying unconscious. He suspected the presence of air or gas in the heart, and applied restorative measures, but they were unsuccessful, and the woman died :of 9.13 p.m. Clarkson told witness in conversation that a syringe had been used. Dr. A. B. Pearson, pathologist at Christchurch Public Hospital, said death was due to air embolism. Detective D. McKenzie read a statement taken from the accused on March 28. . . .. v , Clarkson pleaded not guilty, and was committed to" the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in the sum of £100 and one surety of £100. ■ As Coroner, Mr. E. D. Mosley returned a verdict that death was due to heart failure, caused by air embolism, and that this condition had been brought about by the use of a syringe inserted by Clarkson with the consent and assistance of Bradley.
