DEPARTURE FROM THORNDON
To the accompaniment of cheers from a large number of Parliamentarians •and Government officials, as well as personal friends, the members of the New Zealand delegation to the King's Silver Jubilee celebrations left Thorndon Station by the Limited express last evening for Auckland, on the first stage of their journey to London. The members of the delegation were the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and Mrs. Forbes, the Prime Minister's secretary, Mr. C. A. Jeffery, and Mrs. Jeffery, Mr. H. I. Forde, economic secretary, and Mr. A. L. Lewis, special messenger. There were animated scenes as the time approached for the departure of the train, and after personal farewells had been said the Chief Government Whip (Mr. A. J. Murdoch) called for three cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Forbes. These were heartily given, and they were renewed as the train pulled out, the members of the party acknowledging the cheering from the window of the Ministerial car.
