WHEAT GROWING
(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt would be interesting to know what we in this country are paying in various i ways ' for the privilege of growing wheat in a land unsuitable for the cereal. A sample of fowls' wheat for which I was charged at the rate of 6s 6d per bushel I showed last week to a, wheat grower over from Australia for a holiday. The sample was of the usual kind sold here for feeding poultry—composed of shrivelled, malformed grain for the most part, with plenty of dust. ; His comments on the wisdom of the embargo on the good Australian wheat to permit the sale of this sort of local produce at this price were illuminat-ing.-r-I am, etc.,
