MOTOR REGISTRATION

PRICE OF NUMBER PLATES

Advice was received at a meeting of the executive of the North Island (N.Z..) Motor Union yesterday that the cost of motor-car number plates this year will be reduced from 2s 6d to 2s. The opinion of the meeting was that the price should be further reduced to the actual cost of the plates. Mr. E. A. Batt contended that the Post and Telegraph' Department were not entitled to mak- a profit out of the plates. He moved that while the Motor Union appreciated the reduction of 6d in the price of a set of plates, it was of the opinion that the Post and Telegraph Department should, reduce the price to actual cost based on the total number of plates purchased. The motion was carried. ■
