CHIEF TELEGRAPH ENGINEER RETIRES
Having completed 43 years in the service of the Post and Telegraph Department last month, Mr. C. S. Plank, Chief Telegraph Engineer, is retiring on super* animation on Saturday next. Mr. Plank joined the service as a cadet at Wapier in 1892 and during the next eight years became a skilful telegraphist. He was transferred to Wellington in 1900, and eight years later was drafted to the technical branch and spent some interesting years in the telegraphic laboratory at the time., when Mr.Timothy Buchley was Chief Telegraph Engineer.' In 1913 Mr.Plank was promoted to Christchurch as telegraph engineer, and from 1918 to 1920 he was District Telegraph Engineer for the Auckland district. From 1920 to 1926 he was Inspecting Engineer and in 1932 he was appointed to the position of Chief Telegraph Engineer.
