EIGHTS SELECTED
WELLINGTON CLUB
OLD MEMBERS' DAY
The Wellington Club's eight-oared crews for the inter-club eights regatta on March 10 have been seen on the water several times this week. So far their progress has been somewhat hampered by trouble resulting from the absence of a fin on the boat. This causes a lot of unnecessary rolling in the strong gusty winds which frequent the harbour.
The Wellington crews are as foll ows: —No. 1: J. Luke (sir.), A. Green (7), G. Haydon (6), R. Tregurtha.(s). H Spoor (4), W. McLean (3), A. McNair (2), H. Tester (bow). No. 2: C. Carpenter (str.), R. Redding (7). F. Thornton (6), E. Woolcott (5), R. Paterson (4), W. Mclvor (3), A. Anderson (2), T. Lancaster (bow). Both crews are in the hands of Mr. Jim Thompson. '
Crews have been picked to race for the Old 'Members' Cup. The heats will be commenced next week, and the final will be rowed on Old Members' Day. The crews and heats'to be raced are:—
First heat: G. Haydon (str.),"~F. Hinchliff, J. Scanlon, H. Anderson; R. Tregurtha (str.), H.'Lester, R. Millar, A. Frederic; J. Luke" (str.), W. Mclyor, R McNair, H. Bogren.' , Second heat: W. McLean (str.), R. Redding, F. Meredith, L. Shardlow; H. Spoor (str.), E. Woolcott, R. Nicholson, T. Costello; A. McNair (str.), F. Thornton, V. Halpin, M. Dixon.
Third heat: C. Carpenter (str.),- T. Lancaster, G. Costello, G. Stanton; A. Green (str.), R. Paterson, H. Millar, W. Green; S. Scott (str.), W. Jeromson, A. Anderson, G.Shaw.
These crews are all fairly evenly matched, and some good racing should be seen. As this is the • Wellington Club's jubilee season Old Members' Day this year has been given added interest, and the function to be held next Saturday will be one of the most important of the club's jubilee celebrations. ■ - ...... . ,
Figuring on the afternoon's programme will be the final of the old members' fours, a special race for old members, a swimming race for club members, a massed diving display, and a jousting exhibition in the club's pleasure boats. A greasy boom and pillow-fights will also.be held, and afternoon tea will be served. , ■ •
It is to be hoped thftt club members will give this function the support it clearly merits.
