The New Zealand championship rowing regatta is being held in the Whau Estuary, Avondale, this afternoon. This is the second occasion only that a regatta of national championship character has taken place in Auckland. In 1899 the championships1 were decided off Takapuna Beach, the titles being won ,;by Picton (senior fours), Sfal- (double sculls), Wellington (pair, oar), and P. Grahame, North Shore (Single sculls). Incidentally, Mr. Grahame is one of the "judges today.
The entries for the ten events reveal a vast improvement on those for the twelve events at Picton last year. This is a tribute to the New Zealand Rowing, Championships Regatta Club, the sub-committees of which, under the energetic guidance of Messrs. A. C. Norden and ;C. G. Herdman, have worked very well.
