ATTACKED BY BULL
FARM HAND INJURED
LITTLE GIRL TO RESCUE
(By TelcKi-ap.i.—l'icss Association.) CHIUSTCHURCH, February 11. The courageous action of a girl aged 12 probably saved the life of a farm hand at Rakaia. when he was attacked by a bull on Sunday evening. The farm hand, D. Hopkins, noticed the bull feeding on a wheat stack on the farm of Mr. W. G. Reading early in the evening. He tried to chase the bull away, but as he drew near the animal charged him and knocked him down. With great l'ury the bull began to attack the injured man savagely. Mr. Hopkins had the presence of mind to grasp the,ring.in.'the bull's nose, but the animal became even more enraged and' stamped viciously at the prostrate man. Mr. Hopkins was injured in the chest and stomach but held on till the ring slipped from the bull's nose. The bull was then free to use its horns, and was on the point of doing so when Gladys Rowe, aged 12, who had seen the man's plight, ran, up armed with a pitchfork. This diverted the. bull's attention, and the girl called a dog to her help. The dog held the bull by the nose until the owner rushed across the field with a gun and shot the bull dead. Mr. Hopkins was badly bruised, but today his condition was reported ,to be satisfactory.
