MR. JAMES HOGAN
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. James Hogan, permanent-way foreman of the Wellington City tramways department. -.'■
A native of Ireland,, the late Mr. Hogan was born in 1873. He entered the service of Messrs. Macartney, McElroy, and Co. in connection with.;the construction of the Brighton (England) tramways in 1901. On the completion of the construction at Brighton he was transferred' to Rotherham, Yorkshire, where the firm was also constructing tramways. When Macartney, McElroy, and Co. obtained; the contract for the; construction of the tramways in Wellington Mr. Hogan came to this city and commenced with the construction at the end of .1903. When the construction was completed in the latterpart of 1904, Mr. Hogan joined the corporation service as per-manent-way foreman and remained in this position until his death, i-. ■■;.'-.
■ As a young man the late Mr. Hogan was a remarkably strong. man, and performed many ■ feats displaying extraordinary strength. He was held; in the highest esteem throughout the tasimways service. He is survived by a widow and three sons.
