DAIRYING ~IN THE .SOUTH

(By Telegraph.) (Special to tho "Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, .February 6. The price of butter was advanced by Id per pound last month and today another increase olid is ruling, the wholesale price for first grade being' Is 3d. Producers are not profiting by these higher prices,* as < they do not compensate for the shortage in.output. Butter-makers would be nearer to payable returns at a lesser rate if a,normal quantity for February could be turned out, which is impossible with the 'present shortage of feed.' The output of cheese is also seriously affected by the browningof pastures arid the latest sales,>by factories in the South-Island Dairy Association, at 5Hd and 5 3-Bd, though -nominally an advance, did not mean a clear profit to the farmers. Nothing but abundant' rain, can possibly ease their worries. '
