A MONSTER EEL

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

c . MASTERTON, This Day. An eel- weighing 261b was caught in the Waipoua River last' evening, near- the Masterton Cemetery, by a party of young men. The monster was 4ft Bin long and 18in round the girth. The catch was the result of considerable enterprise and patience on the part of those concerned, especially Mr. Jack Bull. Since itwas first observed about two months ago the eel had successfully eluded various methods and weapons evolved to end its career. The size and great strength of the eel enabled it to get away on every occasion, though on at least two it'carried with it steel hooks embedded in its head. Success was finally achieved last night with a specially-made threepronged steel spear with barbs.
