WIN FOR LYALL BAY

After one of the closest and- ; most evenly contested matches yet seen at Te Aro, Lyall Bay A defeated Maranui Aby 2. goals to 1. The game was played at top speed, and. was of a Very high standard. ; "

Shortly-, after the , start, -Maranui broke through, and DI.C. Plank scored with a long shot from the side, Maranui. did. most of the attacking, up tilt half-time. Near the end of the first half, R. Pelham (Lyall Bay) had to leave the water on account of an eye injury, and play ceased 'until . he was able to resume. ■ .

Early in the second half, J. Meikle evened the score with'a long straight throw from beyond half-way. Lyall Bay then pressed strongly, until R. Pelham scored in the corner of the net with a fine backhand throw. Maranui were unable to; break through again,' although several times they came. close: to scoring. Mr. V. L. In the .B .grade, Y.M.C:A v beat University, by 2 goals. to nil. .. The. teams were quite well matched, and versity missed several-, fine scoring chances. Both teams* show/ considerable improvement on--.their form at :the ;begihriing: of the season. 'Mr. P. ;F.'. Coira'refereed' the game.::.
