CATERPILLARS AND GRUBS,
"J.McD."—The black caterpillars are very destructive to cinerarias and are hard to get rid of. Spraying the plants with arsenate of lead paste—l tablespoonful to a gallon—should: discourage the pests. . . . The grubs which bore into tomato plants at ground level do-a tremendous amount of damage, killing the plants entirely. I was advised recently that dusting sulphur round the base of each plant is an effective way of stopping the trouble. The lower leaves turning yellow does not :seem to affect the plants or the cropping.: Both' these complaints have attacked the writer's plants this year for the first time, but except for those with the grub in the stalk, which have died, the plants are bearing well.
