PRESERVING BIiOOMS
A correspondent writes as follows: "I find that to maintain the freshness of the blooms when picked, there are two. methods which may be : adopted with success. (1) The ends of the stems, may be crushed and plunged, into boiling water for the space of about one minute, 0r,(2) the ends of the stems burnt in a flame, in both cases transferring immediately to a receptacle of cold water in which a pinch of alum has been placed."
