A COMBINED FAREWELL
'SOME CORDIAL SPEECHES
There was a very large gathering at the Pioneer Club last evening when a farewell party was tendered to Miss Amy Kane, who is leaving tomorrow on the first stage of an interesting tour abroad. The societies represented were the club itself, the Plu'nket Society, Horticultural Society, the . Women's Unemployment Committee, British Drama League, Women's 'Institutes, Repertory Society, English-speak-ing Union, R.S.A. Hostel, Victoria League, N.Z.T.A. Overseas League, Hospital Board, Red Cross Society, and others. To each of those - specially mentioned Miss Kane had belonged, and had given good service. Speeches were made by representatives of each, and tributes made to her good work in each case. Her kindness, business ability, and reliable work generally, were all mentioned, and very good wishes were given by all for a prosperous and interesting tour, with the certainty expressed that Miss Kane would bring back a great deal that would- be of interest to -the 'social service workers m Wellington. ' ' The rooms were delightfully decorated with handsome pink and flame' gladioli, Easter,,lilies, arranged, with gypsophila, zinnias, * and . particularly fine hydrangeas, making an artistic ensemble. .-' - " • > " Mrs.-(2. E. Adams (who will act as president of the club in the 'absence of Miss Kane), made ,a presentation to the guest of honour of a "travelling rug, and,a "hold-all," given, with many good wishes from the* members of .the club committee. A beautiful bouquet of' carnations ,and " a shoulder spray accompanied the presentation. A brief; but much-appreciated' concert was given,\ arranged by, Mrs. Ivan Levy, including some charming
items by the club glee group, Mrs. M. Goodson, Miss EUa Fair, and Mrs. J. E. Ramsay, with accompaniment by Mrs. J. A. Doctor. Cordial farewells were also expressed to four members of the Pioneer Club, who will leave shortly for tours abroad, Mrs. 'J. E. Ramsay, Miss M. Cooper, Miss F. Penney, and Mrs. Wittisch.;
Miss Kane, in a brief speech expressed her appreciation of all the kindness shown her in the speeches and the gifts, and said that whatever she was T able to gather in the way'of information while she "was at Stamboul, or/ in any other part of the world, would be willingly and gladly shared when' she returned to New Zealarld. She. knew that her tour would be full of interest, but was sure also, that she would- be- glad--to:'return'home to"-her friends. •■•■ ■' > .-
