UPPER HUTT
The Upper Hutt Women's Institute held its first meeting for the year on Tuesday. Everyone present appeared happy to meet friends and again renew the activities of the institute.
Mrs. S. D. Rogers presided, and in the course of her remarks congratulated the members on the wonderful response which they had made in the way of exhibits in the flower'show, held recently. This was the first flower show held by the combined institutes in the Hutt Valley and it augured well for the success of anything of its kind which, may be attempted in the future. The children's party held in December was also a great success. , _' It was decided to donate a guinea to each of the following institutions: Children's Health Camp, Upper Hutt Unemployed Relief Committee, and Plunket Society. >
The annual picnic is to be, held at Maori Bank'on Wednesday, February 27. • •
The competitions for the afternoon resulted as follows:—Best vase of flowers, Mrs. Wale first, and Mrs. Braid second./ Best six beans, Mrs. Wale first, Mrs. S. D. Rogers second. During the afternoon-Miss Ruth Hay gave a delightful talk on physical culture. She was accorded a very, hearty vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Sutherland, Carr^ithers, Collet, Griffin, Griffiths, McArley, O. Brown, Robinson, Oldham, Wellington, Collie.
